“Strangers passing in the street. By chance two separate glances meet, and I am you and what I see is me”(Pink Floyd, Echoes). Let’s hope those glances catch you in your Pink Floyd hoodie, featured here. Formed in London in 1965, Pink Floyd gained a following as a psychedelic band who were distinguished for their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics, and elaborate live shows. They quickly became a leading band of the progressive rock genre and are one of the most commercially successful and influential groups in popular music history.
During theirDark Side of the Moon Tour in 1972, Pink Floyd spent two nights at Carnegie Hall in New York. The band played 93 shows in 1972 and debuted the live performance before the album’s release, not of one or two songs, but the whole album. The original title was“Eclipse,” but eventually“Dark Side of the Moon - A Piece for Assorted Lunatics” made it’s debut in February 1972. Remarkably during this tour, the first full live performance of the album before it was released 14 months later was almost exactly the same.
