Singer and songwriter Bob Marley, began his musical career in 1963 forming Bob Marley and the Wailers. The group released its debut studio album The Wailing Wailersin 1965, which contained the single“One Love/People Get Read;” the song was immensely popular and peaked in the top five on worldwide music charts.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Bob Mary converted to Rastafarianism, an Abrahamic religion that developed in Jamaica during the 1930s. Over the course of his career, Marley became known as a Rastafari icon. Infusing his music with a sense of spirituality, he is considered a global symbol of Jamaican culture and identity, and was controversial in his support for the legalization of marijuana.
