Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. The band fused elements of rock, folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, blues, gospel, and psychedelic rock. Their devoted fan base, known as “Deadheads” were happy to find out that the Grateful Dead would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. The band had changed to their members over time, but when Jerry Garcia died in 1995, former members of the band, along with other musicians, toured as the Other Ones.
The Bertha skull and roses logo are recognized as one of the most popular logos used by the Grateful Dead. The skull and roses design were composed by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse. The rose is an attribute of Saint Valentine who, according to one legend, was martyred by decapitation.
