By 1974, Grateful Dead needed a break. After years of touring with their infamous Wall of Sound, a speaker system involving dozens of speakers and even more crew-people to coordinate, the group were weary and worn down. They channeled one last blast of energy into their live double album, Steal Your Face, designed to herald a break for the band.
Luckily, the band reunited two years later to record Terrapin Station and continue the Grateful grooves, but the“Steal Your Face” logo - a stylized skull shocked through by a bolt of lightning - became one of the permanent symbols for the Dead and can still be seen today on bumper stickers and jacket patches all across the world.
