Pink Floyd released a series of epic albums in the 70s, including Wish You Were Here(1975), an extension of content made during their European tour, then recorded in the famous Abbey Road. Mixed reviews of the album included praise, to the album being uninspired compared to previous work. Regardless of reviews, 13 million copies sold.
The second song on the album, and a single, was“Welcome to the Machine,” a satirical and monumental track about the structured world around us and lack of individuality. The song features major plays on time signatures and synthesized sections, making for a structured song instead of an improv tack.
