Formed in London in 1977, The Police consisted of Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland. In the 1970s and early 1980s, the band became globally popular as they emerged in the British new-wave scene, playing a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. The Police have sold over 75 million records, making them one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. They have won a number of music awards, including six Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and in 2003 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Synchronicity was the fifth and final studio album by The Police, released in the United Kingdom in June 1983. The album was the band’s most successful release and at the 1984 Grammy Awards, the album was nominated for a total of five awards and won three. The album’s original cover artwork, conceived by Jeff Ayeroff and Norman Moore, was available in 36 different variations of color stripes and photos, taken by Duane Michals.
