In January 1954, twelve American musicians traveled to Europe under the tour title "Jazz Club USA," named after Leonard Feather's radio show. Feather also sent his own mini-festival on tour: a trio with singing pianist Beryl Brooker, another trio led by Red Norvo, the quartet of Buddy DeFranco, and singer Billie Holiday. Having had an encounter with her abusive husband the evening prior, Billie appeared onstage in Cologne wearing dark sunglasses, and the repertoire included a song written by her entitled "I Love My Man." (a.k.a. "Billie's Blues"). The singer may have been battered by her disastrous life, but she was nevertheless able to move her audience. Live in Cologne 1954 is an unreleased, original re-mastered concert recording! This collectible 180 gm vinyl includes two bonus tracks not found on the CD.
