Slowfoot is very proud to present to you the "Dust EP", the debut release of sonic mastermind Crewdson. Hailing from the chilly North of England and settling in tropical South East London to study at Goldsmiths (alongside fellow alumni James Blake) a few short years ago, Hugh 'Crewdson' Jones has been slowly gliding from strength-tostrength throughout 2010. I mean, it's not every day someone plays the Southbank Centre's lauded Ether Festival before even releasing a note of music is it? And then when they do leak a track online get picked up for editorial on the US's influential Fader website, as what happened with his track 'Mime'? No. So there you go. Your ears and eyes now pricked, what can you expect from this release and Crewdson in future? Starting with the limited edition Dust EP, you can expect an upbeat and playful concoction of electronic music, taking in influences from techno, jazz, 2-step, dubstep, your doorstep... whilst answering that question of what might happen if you threw Polar Bear, Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin and maybe even the Streets in a room together and they came back out with something eminently listenable and, heck, good. Here you get 2 tracks from Crewdson leading each side of vinyl ("Dust Crawlers" and "Pet" for a and B respectively) followed up by equally intriguing remixes and reworkings of Crewdson tracks "Mime" (reworked by Ninja Tune's acclaimed Grasscut) and "Goodbye Old Friend" (remixed by the Dude himself, Bass Clef). Live as in the studio, Crewdson creates sound from machinery, found items, manipulated vocals and occasionally the odd-piece of electronic musical equipment such as his saxophone or one of his many banks of live samplers. With live shows in the works to coincide with the release of Dust Crawlers, what else beckons for Crewdson? More remixes for one, having already worked up tracks for La Shark, the Invisible and Esben and the Witch. Then the finishing touches to his album, due in the first half of 2011. Keep an eye on his MySpace and the Slowfoot website for further details as and when they're announced.
