Godzilla - Akira Ifukube - Original Motion Picture Score LP on Death Waltz. 180g vinyl - The 1954 original is distinctly different from all subsequent Godzilla films, excluding the 2014 Gareth Edwards directed picture. Edwards kept much of Honda's tone and that film's composer, Alexandre Desplat, takes inspiration from the original Godzilla score when creating his own. Powerful horns, hissing stings, a sense of mass; all are present on both releases. When the reboot was first announced, I noticed many who believed the Godzilla franchise was simply too campy to be presented to modern audiences. Unfortunately, people either forget, or never witnessed Godzilla's artistic, poetic, and horrific origins. Toho, Honda, and Takeo Murata created Godzilla in direct response to the lingering atomic fear that plagued the people of Japan a decade after the U.S. bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
