In the 1950s Donald Byrd and Pepper Adams were among the first musicians that left Detroit for New York City to take their careers to the next level. In 1958 they played monthly gigs in NYC clubs, most often in a quintet line-up like on this release. Three years later they recorded their studio album Out Of This World for the Warwick label. Then 16-year-old Herbie Hancock proves to be a musical genius and an equal partner.
