Mulatu Astatké is at the same time the godfather and the standard bearer of the Ethiopian music. His name was imperative, following the example of Fela Kuti, Salik Keita, Ali Farka Touré, at the very top of the bill of the African musicians. This talented vibraphone player, is also recognized for the quality of it's compositions which marry, jazz and traditional Ethiopian music, "Ethio Jazz." This album " Ethio Jazz " by Mulatu Astatké is a jewel of the modern Ethiopian music and a mythical album. An album incredibly groovy recorded between 1969 in 1972. a record of Ethio groove in which we find some US soul, the jazz, the Latin accents and especially the oriental rhythms. A real jewel of the Ethiopian modern instrumental music, which illustrates perfectly the symbiosis of the strong rhythms and the quality arrangements with the Ethiopian subtle and deep melodies.
