En juin 1992, il enregistre dans le théâtre du casino du Val-André en Bretagne son premier album, Le bal des oiseaux. Sorti en 1993, cet album lui donne une reconnaissance immédiate et vaut à Thomas Fersen un prix Victoire de la musique en tant que Révélation masculine en 1994. L’album est certifié disque d’or en 2001. La pièce Le bal des oiseaux est l’une des chansons les plus connues de cet artiste.
