On this album we present to you a 'secular' liturgy: songs of confession, of absolution, scripture narratives, a parable, Kyrie and Gloria songs, and so forth. The titles do not suggest a liturgy, nor do the lyrics until one begins to ponder the relationship of these contemporary texts. The fact that a word or group of words was meaningful five hundred or fifteen hundred years ago does not imply that they will speak clearly to this age, an electric age, an age of high speed and high emotion. We've tried to give you a wide variety of musical styles, arrangements, and instrumentations to make this album good listening, as well as thought provoking. - John Ylvisaker, 1967.
