February 6th, 2020
byDrew GarrisoninNewsletters

Thanks for hanging out with us for the Merchbar Minute today! Here's a few of trending music stories, new arrival merch, and more music goodness for our community.

Music Makes Us Feel Good

Throw on your favorite quiet-time music, let the tunes play for 13 minutes, and you might just find yourself feeling a bit more at ease. We love to follow along the health benefits behind listening to music, and a new study released by the British Academy of Sound Therapy indicates that it takes 13 minutes of listening to "release sadness” and just 9 minutes to bring on feelings of happiness. Check out the full study, and the snazzy infographic to go with it.

How Vinyl Records Are Made

Vinyl record listening and popularity have been on a steady rise over the last few years, and while I too am a collector, I realized I’d never taken the time to sit down and learn about how all of these amazing records made. If you're wondering how those grooves get their grooves on your favorite vinyl, this four-minute YouTube video is a great watch. The more you know!

5 Seconds Of Summer Album On The Way

Big news for our 5SOS Fam, with the group announcing a March 27th release date for their fourth studio album CALM. The follow-up to 2018’s Youngblood is highly-anticipated, and 5 Seconds of Summer even dropped an official album teaser trailer on YouTube to get fans ready for the big day. Check that out right right over here.

We want to share pictures from our growing community of music lovers! Let's see your favorite live concert shots, band tees you cherish, trademark hoodies, collection of instruments, posters, and everything you love about music!

This week we have an astonishing live shot of Ghost, courtesy of JB sharing their favorite band and concert with us. The lighting, the stained glass backdrop, and the colors all come together for an awesome picture. We appreciate you sharing this moment with our community, thank you!

Every week we take to Google Trends to see what people are searching for. Are people looking for WD-40 or E-40? What about Lil Yachty vs. Boat Rentals? Are people yawning, or looking up Yanni's discography? What's more popular; NASCAR or Coachella?

Usually we pit something music related vs. something non-music related here, find out which of the two topics has the most Google juice, then call a winner. This week we're changing it up just a bit following Super Bowl Sunday's halftime performance, featuring an absolutely astonishing greatest hits rundown from headliners Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. It left me wondering which of the two superstars came away with the biggest buzz after the top-notch show, so we narrowed it down to searches over the last seven days instead of the entire year. The results are in and...:

Shakira comes out of this one with a big win, and plenty of hype after her electrifying performance. The full performance was published on YouTube, and it's already up to 94 million views. Absolute icons putting on an unforgettable show.

I may not have an exact date when this was taken, but we know it's a throwback pic because the Metal Faced Terrorist himself, MF DOOM, has remained off the grid for as long as we can remember. DOOM is one of the most mysterious - and vicious - emcees to ever clutch a mic, and this shot of him rocking it on stage is a rare look at our favorite villain doing what he does best.
