American heavy metal band Disturbed formed in Chicago in 1994. The band cites a range of influences from both alternative and metal bands like Metallica, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. Their dark lyrical themes explore the concept of Heaven and Hell, suicide, and vampire fantasy. Frontman and lead vocalist David Draiman says the music he writes is inspired by his own experiences.
In 2000 Disturbed released its debut album, The Sickness, and they launched directly into stardom. The album peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard charts and sold more than four million copies in the U.S. Their mascot, only known as“The Guy” is always depicted as a shadowy face with a menacing grin.
