Slayer is considered one of the founding“big four” of thrash metal. They formed in Huntington Park, California during the early 1980s and almost immediately connected with a large audience. Their metal attitude and lyrics haven’t been without controversy. Their music covers topics such as war, genocide, and death – which has lead to lawsuits and protests. But through it all, they’ve become one of the godfathers of thrash metal with a reputation for influencing the newest generation of metalheads.
The wordmark made its debut on the cover of theShow No Mercy album(1983). The sharp angles and unusual lines of the letters emphasize the emotional temperature of the music. Slayer used the color red bleeding from their name because… well, you know why.
