You’ve heard of black metal? Well, it was Venom that coined the phrase with their 1982 album of the same name, setting the bar for the future of thrash and other heavy metal offshoots. The British heavy rockers have been led by bassist and lead singer Cronos, aka Conrad Lant, since their inception in 1978, and have released 13 studio albums with various lineups since then.
This image on this tee is taken from Venom’s debut album Welcome to Hell and features the text from two different tracks, “In League with Satan,” and “Live Like an Angel (Die Like a Devil).” It depicts a goat’s head representation of Satan, a theme that runs throughout the bands lyrics and music, a fact that would get the band’s third album At War with Satan pulled from UK shelves in 1984.
