Get ready to give up the funk with this ode to the band Parliament. Formed in the late ‘60s by George Clinton as part of his Parliament-Funkadelic collective, Parliament drew on science-fiction and outlandish performances of their work. The group was originally known as the Parliaments, a doo-wop vocal group based at a Plainfield, New Jersey barbershop. Finding success with their hit single “(I Wanna) Testify” (1967) Clinton wanted to capitalize on his chart success. He proceeded to form a touring band featuring a teenage barbershop employee on bass and his friend on guitar.
One Nation Under a Groove (1978) is the tenth studio album by Funkadelic. The album was the most commercially successful album, and one of its most critically applauded. It is regarded by many as the greatest funk album of all time. The album is listed as one of the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and on Vibes 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century list.
