Tupac Shakur, aka 2Pac, was one of the driving forces in hip-hop in the 1990s, and today he is still considered to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. From 1991 to 1996, Tupac managed to fit several lifetimes worth of incredible hit songs into just a handful of studio albums—all before his tragic death at the age of 25.
One of the pinnacles of West Coast rap, Shakur’s songs spoke to the social consciences of hip-hop fans as well as mainstream radio listeners. Songs like“Brenda’s Got a Baby,” and“Keep Ya Head Up” evoked the plights of injustice, poverty, and police brutality, while Shakur proved he could also deliver party anthems like“I Get Around” and“California Love.”
