Back in Black was released after the early death of Bon Scott, the bands lead singer. It is the seventh studio album and was released July 1980. The band, having just lost Scott to alcohol poisoning after a drinking binge, was intent on recording the new album as a tribute. The band brought on Brian Johnson, formerly of the band Geordie, to record the vocals. Songs were primarily composed by Angus and Malcolm young and were recorded over seven weeks. The album cover, all black, was designed as a“sign of mourning” for Scott.
