On May 8, 1979, a band from England by the name of The Cure released their debut album Three Imaginary Boys, and one of the most influential alternative rocks groups of all-time was born. 13 studio albums and millions of records sold later, they’ve now been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the 2019 class. Not a bad trajectory at all, and an honor rightfully deserved.
With timeless hits like“Friday I’m In Love,”“Boys Don’t Cry,”“Lovesong,” and“Just Like Heaven,”(to name just a few) The Cure’s music remains relevant and beloved. They’ve influenced not only an endless list of musicians, but were also at the forefront of an entire genre as leaders of the new wave movement. Their unique sound and songwriting, partnered with Robert Smith’s creative and uncompromised vision, left a lasting impact on music that’s inspired generations of fans.
