“Dancing Bears” Fire On The Mountain Design
Navy Grateful Dead shirt
Debuted on-stage in 1973, and later released on the studio album Shakedown Street, the Grateful Dead’s“Fire on the Mountain” was a staple of the eclectic jam band—who performed it live 253 times, often paired with“Scarlet Begonias.” With lyrics by Robert Hunter, and composed by drummer Mickey Hart, these live versions of“Fire on the Mountain” highlight Jerry Garcia’s skillful, improvisational guitar solos.
Evocative of the Deadheads who followed the band on tour, this shirt also features a unique version of one of the Dead’s many iconic symbols, the“Dancing” Bear. Designed by Bob Thomas, the bears were first included in the album art for 1973’s History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One, and were a reference to the album’s producer Owsley“Bear” Stanley.
