Did you know Led Zeppelin started their own record label? It’s true! The“Stairway to Heaven” band took a breather from touring in 1974 to launch“Swan Song” their record label named after an unreleased song. The label’s logo was based on an 1869 sketch called“Evening(The Fall of Day) by artist William Rimmer. His art depicted a winged human and inspired the Icarus logo. While Swan Song made the perfect vehicle to promote their music, Led Zeppelin took other bands under their wing to endorse their works as well, one of the more recognizable bands to sign was Bad Company. The label was successful up until Led Zeppelin disbanded and Swan Song closed its doors in 1984. As it were, the Icarus logo made its way onto various merchandise—like this shirt. To others, it’s just another cool looking graphic, but now that you’re in the know, why not drop some Zeppelin knowledge and elevate your fan status.
