Formed in 1980, New Order is an English rock band that integrated post-punk with electronic and dance music. They are considered one of the most acclaimed and influential bands of the 1980s. The band’s experience in the New York club scene saw them increasingly incorporating dance rhythms. New Order briefly disbanded in 1993 to work on individual projects before reuniting in 1998.
Power, Corruption, & Lies is the second studio album by New Order, released in May 1983. The album featured more electronic tracks than their 1981 debut Movement with heavier use of synthesizers. It was included in the Top-100 albums of the 1980s lists in Rolling Stone andPitchfork. The cover art is a reproduction of the painting“A Basket of Roses” by French artist Henri Fantin-Latour, which is part of the National Gallery’s permanent collection in London.
