American funk metal band Primus was originally formed as Primate by singer/bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Todd Huth, and a drum machine. After selling his car to finance a demo, Claypool learned that there was already a band called the Primates, so Primus was born.
Primus is notable for composing the theme for South Park in 1996. Their first attempt at the theme ended up in the closing credits - it took a second crack at the composition to find the faster-paced theme used to this day. They also later contributed a tune to the South Park parody album, Chef Aid: The South Park Album.
