While their previous albums had found an audience, it wasn't until the Red Hot Chili Peppers's fifth studio album, 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, that they found truly worldwide fame. With less of an emphasis on heavy metal riffs than their previous effort, 1989's Mother's Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magik found the Peppers diving deeper into fun, innuendo-stacked lyrics.

Featuring hit singles like "Under the Bridge," "Give It Away," and "Suck My Kiss," Blood Sugar Sex Magik peaked in the US Billboard 200 at No. 3. Considered a keystone of the alt-rock phenomenon of the early-1990s, Blood Sugar Sex Magik is still considered by some to be the best of the Peppers's output.
