Already a work in progress during the tour for their previous album, Exit...Stage Left, Rush's Signals is an album defined by confident exploration. Rush made sure to capture test performances of songs planned for Signals in soundchecks during this tour, allowing them to develop new material even while promoting then-current tracks.
The 1982 record includes an expanded use of synthesized sound, along with other electronic instruments. Some lament that the increased use of synths meant a loss of other analog instruments like the guitar, but others consider it a great album of the 1980s.
