Sublime, Long Beach’s preeminent‘90s ska-punk band, recorded just three studio albums before frontman Bradley Nowell’s tragic death in 1996. Since then, Sublime’s catalog of genre-fusing tunes has become a touchstone for the laid-back, West Coast lifestyle while still transcending mainstream music culture-at-large.
As a band, Sublime was uniquely capable of performing radio-friendly original hits like“What I Got,” and“Santeria,” as well as covering songs by Bob Marley, the Grateful Dead, and the Descendents on the same record. This Under the Sea design uses the burning sun painting featured on the cover 40oz. to Freedom, created by Long Beach artist Opie Ortiz.
