When it comes to images that have stood the test of time, The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover artwork may just live forever. It’s been replicated, recreated and imitated endlessly, a truly inspirational image. It was such vivid imagery that they decided to omit any album or band name, believing fans would know exactly what they were looking at when they laid eyes on The Beatles in stride on Abbey Road.
The idea for the photo actually came from John McCartney's sketches. Iain Macmillan would be the lucky photographer, given 10 minutes by police who had stopped traffic. McCartney was given six different photos to choose from and he was so precise that he inspected each one with a magnifying glass before making his decision. It's history from there, and that is the story of the birth of one of the most iconic images ever.
