Misfits are often recognized as the creators of the horror punk sub-genre, blending punk and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. The group was formed in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by Glenn Danzig and Manny Martínez. The band has gone through many lineup changes over the years, but the band mascot, The Fiend, has remained the same.
“Horror Business” was a single released by Misfits June 1979, which featured a skeletal figure inspired by a poster for the 1946 film serial“The Crimson Ghost.” The skull image would serve as the Misfit’s logo for the rest of their career. The band also launched a fan club named the“Fiend Club” which Danzig operated in a do-it-yourself fashion. He silkscreened t-shirts, assembled records, mailed merchandise catalogs, booked shows for the band, and answered fan mail all from his mother’s basement in Lodi!
