While taking some time off from touring and promoting their first album Hemispheres (2012), Florida's Alexander & the Grapes began collecting as much recording equipment as they could and eventually built their own home studio, affectionately called Yoko Phono. Friend, engineer, and producer Jeremy Mendicino (of Boston's Pretty & Nice) was flown down to Florida to help the band record 2016's Hyper Self out of the 50+ songs they had written during that time. Almost gone, but certainly not forgotten, is the band's original playing field of insurgent country and Americana. In it's place, the Grapes explore new territory, particularly 1990s indie and garage rock with a fair share of sonic psychedelic soundscapes. Vinyl limited to 500 on the band's own Viva La Records.
Each record is protected within its record sleeve by a white vellum anti-dust sleeve.
