Everything you love about rock meets everything you love about funk. This cross-section of the Utah-based funk-rock quintet the Question is packed with strong alternative rock songwriting and fat, funky grooves. Station Wagon EP comes a year and a half into the band's local career and showcases strong examples of both ends of their style. The Question began in the summer of 2008 when four music students from Brigham Young University met to start a rock band. Mike McClellan, on keys, principal songwriter and lead vocalist. Stephen Newman on guitar. Matt Mehr on Drums. Eric Smith on bass. When saxophonist Chris Wilson heard the band, he offered his service. The band's sound was so jazzy, the saxophone fit right in. Track one 'Off the Chart' is the most straight-funk song on the disc. Track two 'Open Book' is more of a rock tune, but it's jazzy groove is equally funky and danceable. The E.P. then takes a very dramatic turn with the powerful 'Indigenous Fist', a gripping rock song about the loss of indigenous cultures in an increasingly technologically driven world. The song features an impressive solo on the didgeridoo by the bass player. The E.P. closes with Sit Tight, a jazzy piece that has served as the band's theme song from the beginning.
