Canadian-American roots rock group The Band got their start touring with Bob Dylan between 1965-1956. Their success led them to New York where they released their 1968 debut album Music from Big Pink. They came up with their moniker because they were always“the band” to various frontmen and locals in Woodstock. The group began performing as The Band in 1968 and went on to release 10 studio albums.
Their first live appearance was at Stony Brook University and they followed that appearance by playing at Woodstock! That same year they left for Los Angeles to record their second studio album The Band(1969).The Band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2008, they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
